Sappy! or How I discovered pickle on a stick

Aug 5, 2013 by

This weekend was my annual summer trip to the lovely town of Sackville, New Brunswick, the “cultural hub of the maritimes.” It was for the music festival Sappyfest but for the first time it was hosting the Why Nowhere? Conference. As part of the conference we launched Serena McCarroll’s book All Citizens. Serena came from Toronto and essayist Saara Liinamaa came up from Wolfville. We launched it in the Legion after the zine fair.

Here are Saara and Serena discussing All Citizens in the Legion.
Also part of the conference was this panel discussion on running small town festivals.

Sappyfest is a music festival after all and we did catch some good music, but by far the best, maybe the best ever at Sappy was The Underachievers, who were introduced to the organizers by their kids! Gansta!

Below is Serena with conference attendee (and music critic) Carl Wilson.

And now for the Sappy Sackville scenery:

And finally on the way home we stopped for a pickle on a stick!
